Students currently enrolled in teacher education courses will have a substantial impact on education in the future. It is therefore important to investigate their motivations for entering into teacher education, their perceptions about the teaching profession, and their career aspirations.
The LIFT Study was first conducted in October 2011 with 854 Indonesian final-year teacher education students from two public and two private universities. This research referred to the Factors Influencing Teaching Choice (FIT-Choice) framework and scale which have been widely applied across countries and were translated into 17 languages. The LIFT Study is the first research project to employ the FIT-Choice scale in Indonesia.
As of 2023, the psychometrically-validated Indonesian translation of the FIT-Choice scale is currently being utilised by the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia in a project led by Dr Weny Savitry S. Pandia. This project focuses on early childhood and primary teachers in Jakarta and Kutai.
The LIFT Study gratefully acknowledges the support, collaboration and valuable assistance of prominent scholars in teacher education.
